Tim deJongThe seven year collaboration of WGW owner and artisan Tim deJong with metal working genius Jimmy Harwell has reached new heights in 2006 in the lobby of Granite Park Three. Our timeless Tree Lamp was the seed for this project, and the question was, Jimmy Harwell"Can you take this and turn it upside down and make it 50 times bigger?" After six months of intense labor, their joint efforts have produced three extra-ordinary chandeliers. The largest is 14 feet in diameter, holds 61 light shades and weighs 1,800 pounds. The chandeliers may be viewed in the lobby of: Granite Park Three, 5601 Granite Parkway, Plano TX 75024. We invite you to explore, enjoy and lose yourself in the love, ambience and allure of the Texas Oak Chandeliers.

Sam Houston Starburst Chandelier

installation of the handblown chandelierIn 2003, the Sam Houston Memorial Museum in Huntsville, Texas, commissioned Wimberley Glass Works
to create a grand Starburst Chandelier to serve as the focal point for the museum's new Katy & E. Don Walker Sr. Education Building. The chandlier was installed in March 2004, and is now part of the permanent collection of the handblown glass chandeliermuseum.

Tim deJong, the artisans at WGW and blacksmith Tom Linning of Wimberley Valley Forge, created the natural iron, bright white and crystal chandelier that spreads approximately 8 feet in diameter and reaches 7.5 feet in height, it weighs in at almost 300 pounds.
Designed to honor Sam Houston and the State of Texas, the chandelier is modeled around two stars - each created with five points. The first, like a sheriff's star, represents Sam Houston, who as Texas' first president, helped establish the foundation for many of the laws we live by today. The second star, like the Lone Star, honors the great State of Texas (or, in Sam Houston's time, the Republic of Texas). Smaller versions here.

The Sam Houston Starburst Chandelier may be seen during museum visiting hours from 9 am to 4:30 pm, Tuesday through Saturday, and noon to 4:30 pm on Sunday.
